What Americans Want from Immigration Reform: New Research on Immigration Reform

Co-sponsored by the Religion and Politics Section, Migration Group

Description: In February 2013, PRRI, in partnership with the Brookings Institution, conducted one of the largest surveys ever fielded on immigration reform. The survey found generally positive views of immigrants and broad bipartisan and cross-religious support for a path to citizenship for immigrants who are currently living illegally in the country. Following up on this major study, PRRI conducted a series of focus groups and a new national survey to track support for a path to citizenship and to explore what Americans think about specific elements of immigration reform policy, like waiting periods and fines. Lead researchers for the study–PRRI CEO Robert P. Jones and Brookings’ Senior Fellows EJ Dionne and Bill Galston–will present the findings of the study and participate in a panel discussion with scholars Manuel Vasquez and Kristen Heyer.

Panelists:

  • Robert P. Jones, Public Religion Research Institute
  • E.J. Dionne, Brookings Institution, Washington Post, Washington, D.C.
  • William Galston, The Brookings Institution
  • Kristin Heyer, Santa Clara University
  • Manuel A. Vasquez, University of Florida
