This year, PRRI surveyed Americans about their attitudes toward the 2024 presidential candidates and their policies, as well as the overall direction of the country, the state of the economy, the broader health of our democracy, and the appeal of authoritarianism:

“Inflation remains a predominant concern among all Americans; among Republicans, immigration and crime are top critical issues while abortion and the health of democracy rank higher for Democrats.”

2024 PRRI American Values Survey

“[Using] the Right-Wing Authoritarianism Scale (RWAS), PRRI finds that 43% of Americans hold highly authoritarian views, including 67% of Republicans, 35% of independents, and 28% of Democrats.”

What’s Buzzing:

According to PRRI’s post-election survey, while about four in ten American voters (42%) are very confident that democracy will remain strong over the next four years, partisan differences are stark: most Republican voters (79%) are very confident in democracy, compared with roughly one-third of independent voters (35%), and just 5% of Democrats.
