Early Restoration on the Passaic River

EPA Signs Agreement with Companies to Remove 200,000 cubic yards of dioxin-laden sediment from Passaic River

On June 23, 2008 a historic agreement was announced between the United States environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occidental Chemical Corporation (Occidental) and Tierra Solutions (Tierra) to remove dioxin-laden sediment from targeted spots along the lower Passaic River.  This agreement calls for 200,000 cubic yards of dioxin-laden sediment to be to be removed from the river in the area in the direct vicinity of the Diamond Alkali Superfund site in Downtown Newark.
