NJN News STATION: NEW JERSEY NETWORK DATE/TIME: 11/29/00 6:OOPM LENGTH: 1:10 KENT MANAHAN, ANCHOR: Some New Jersey lawmakers claim a proposed study to restore the Passaic River would benefit the environment and the state's economy. The US Army Corps of Engineers joined state officials to announce a pilot program to clean up the river and transform its waterfront into a destination site. The study is the first step toward restoring the river to its original pristine state. It's also important toward strengthening economic development in Newark and along the river. REP. BOB MENENDEZ: (Excerpt of press conference) Now we have an opportunity to change that legacy of failure into an opportunity for success in the future. That's what we hope to do.
